Sonam Ghising Lama
Founder/ PresidentSonam Ghising is an accomplished individual who has made significant contributions as a social activist, volunteer, member of the New Jersey Asian American Law Enforcement Association since 2017, community leader, driver advocate, an Auxiliary NYPD police officer, and the founder of the Nepalese American Law Enforcement Association. Born and raised in Nepal, Sonam’s passion for service began early when he joined the Scout in 2007. Sonam’s dedication to peace and community welfare led him to serve as the team leader of the INGO Global Peace Association and later founded the team called “NOT DONATION DOING FOR THE NATION ” where he and his team started various social activities like food and clothes distribution to needy people, reliefs programs to the landslide victim and Anti-Drug awareness program in Nepal.
Ghising moved to the United States Of America in 2015. After moving USA he did not stop what he was doing back home in Nepal. He continued serving the community in America too. Ghising later founded a social help group called “New York Nepalese Help Post” with the vision of uniting all Nepalese Americans in one Umbrella where they could get support and help from each other. With the group’s help, the Nepalese Community is finding jobs, roommates, apartments, government news updates, business resources, immigration support, free English classes, and networking. The beauty of this group is all the services are free.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghising played a crucial role in assisting New Yorkers. He distributed over ten thousand food pantry boxes and thousands of personal protective equipment (PPE) with the support of nonprofit organizations such asĀ Rotary Queens and Independent Drivers Guild ensuring that vulnerable individuals had access to essential resources. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as he was recognized as a COVID-19 hero by Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar for his invaluable contributions during the pandemic. He was also awarded a Certificate of Recognition by Mayor Bill De Blasio for his exceptional leadership and remarkable efforts for his commitment to serving the people of New York City and Beyond.
